Favorite Christmas Carol

Happy New Year to you all! January is almost over. Recently we had a snow storm, which I love but is rare here in Alabama. It reminded me of an old favorite Christmas carol that I learned as a kid. It was based on a poem by an English poet, Christina Rossetti back in 1872. It was later set to music by the composer Gustav Holst. To me , it really describes the essence of winter.

In the deep mid-winter,

Frosty wind made moan.

Earth stood hard as iron,

Water like a stone.

Snow had fallen, snow on snow,

Snow on snow.

In the bleak mid-winter,

Long ago.

This is just the first of 5 verses that tell the story of Baby Jesus in Bethlehem.
